Arthritis Care
This organisation provides information about arthritis through the helpline. It can also put people in touch with local groups which support both those with arthritis and their carers.

British Medical Journal
Free access to their archive, it is possible to search all available issues from 1994.

British Heart Foundation
Gives advice and information about heart conditions, as well as funding research, education and care.

Continence Foundation
A confidential advice and factsheet service to people who have any bladder or bowel problems. They can put you in touch with a professional adviser.

Diabetes UKWorks with people in the UK who have diabetes, funding research, campaigning, and helping people live with the condition.

For Dementia
They can give support to carers of people with dementia. They also run the Admiral Nurse Service. This is a service specialised in caring for a person with dementia and is available in certain areas.

General Medical Council
Will investigate when it is alleged that doctors are not fit to practice. Will not deal with other complaints but these can be directed to the Health Service Ombudsman.

Health Centre
A UK site which will guide you through the huge amount of medical and health information available on the Internet.

Health Service Ombudsman
Will investigate complaints about NHS care that cannot be resolved at a local level.

Macmillan Cancer Relief
A national charity which works to improve the quality of life of people living with cancer. Can provide palliative care nursing.

MIND
They can give advice on any issues surrounding mental health and mental illness to individuals and their carers. Provides a number of useful factsheets.

NHS Direct
Information on health features, an easy to use guide to treating common symptoms at home and audio clips on a wide range of health topics.

The National Council for Palliative Care
The National Council for Palliative Care (NCPC) is the umbrella organisation for all those who are involved in providing, commissioning and using hospice and palliative care services in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

National Osteoporosis Society
A national charity dedicated to improving the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of this fragile bone disease.  They run a helpline service where you can get information about the condition.

The Parkinson's Disease Society
Advice and information for people with Parkinson's disease and their carers. Also has information about local support groups.

The Royal National Institute for the Blind
Offers information, advice and support for people in the UK who have sight problems.

The Royal National Institute for the Deaf
Campaigns on behalf of people with hearing impairments. Also offers advice, information and support for these people.

The Stroke Association
Funds research into stroke and associated disability. Can provide information about how to cope with a stroke, and supports carers through community services, information services and welfare grants.
